Original AoM: control the map in the Classical Age

Prepare a safe resource move, coordinate human troops and heroes, and use god powers to secure a lasting advantage.
Prepare for the Classical Age
Original Age of Mythology has Greek, Egyptian, and Norse civilizations. Build a stable economy, choose a Classical minor god that supports the next fight, and bring the heroes and support your first army needs.
Build toward a useful first army
Keep economic production active and find the nearby food, wood, and gold before selecting your first attack route. Place dropsites to minimize unnecessary walking. Reserve the resources for the advance requirements, but do not neglect population space or the income needed to produce troops afterward.
Choose your Classical minor god for the next task. Match its myth unit, technologies, and power to the army you intend to field. Reserve the resources to train that army as the advance finishes.
As the age advance finishes, scout the opponent’s military direction. Determine whether you need to defend an exposed resource immediately or can assemble a small force before moving out. A handful of soldiers arriving separately is easier to defeat than a group that reaches the objective together.
Keep the civilization’s support system working
Greek players should combine a suitable human front line with ranged or mobile support and the relevant hero response to myth units. Keep the hero alive for its specialist purpose rather than sending it alone into ordinary troops. A flexible army develops from what the enemy shows, not a permanent commitment to the first unit trained.
Egyptian players should use their specialized troops against the appropriate targets and keep gold access central to their plan. The Pharaoh can contribute through empowerment and support, but moving the unit into danger for a small improvement can leave the economy and army worse off. Defend the location where your next income will come from, not only the center where you began.
Norse players should connect mobile economic movement with military vision. Foot soldiers that construct forward infrastructure also represent fighting strength, so build during a safe window and keep enough support present. Battle-based favor rewards useful combat; losing an unsupported army still weakens the position.
Give the first attack a limited objective
Choose a resource, forward building, or expansion route you can realistically contest. If the opponent retreats into strong defensive fire, take the map space that retreat concedes. An attack can succeed without destroying a Town Center. Safe outside food for your own workers can be a meaningful reward.
Maintain reinforcement and worker production while the army moves. If attention is stretched, choose one main group rather than launching several weak raids. A modest controlled attack is a better learning tool than chaotic activity that stops your own economy.
Treat god powers as a commitment
Your god powers have limited uses. Connect each cast to a lasting result: remove a key threat, preserve an army, or secure the resources needed for the next transition. Hold a power while ordinary troops can handle the situation, and commit it when the outcome of the battle justifies the use.
A saved power is also not an achievement if the game ends before you use it. When a battle determines whether your miners survive or your army can retreat, the current position may matter more than a hypothetical perfect cast later.
Review the first forced decision
In the replay, find the first time enemy movement forced you to react. Check whether you had vision, useful troops nearby, and resources for a response. Improve the earliest missing preparation, then repeat the opening with the same priorities: active income, clear unit roles, and coordinated movement.
