Introduction
Loki in Age of Mythology: Retold is the ultimate rush god. Fast buildings, Hersir myth spawns, and aggressive tempo make Loki terrifying in the first 10 minutes. If you love applying early pressure and forcing your opponent to react to you, Loki is your pick.

Loki Bonuses (Retold)
- Buildings construct 25% faster — forward bases go up before opponents can react
- Hersirs trigger myth unit spawns more efficiently than other Norse heroes
- +25% counter unit damage bonus
- God Power — Spy: Reveals an enemy unit permanently — track their army or eco movements
- Cheaper myth units from Temples
Standard Hersir Rush Build (3:50-4:10 Classical)
Archaic Age
- Queue villagers nonstop from TC
- Starting villagers to closest hunt + drop Ox Cart
- First new villager to food
- Next 1-2 villagers to wood — build Houses, then stay on wood
- 6-7 villagers on food quickly
- 2 villagers + Ox Cart to wood
- 1-2 villagers to gold, then add a 2nd Ox Cart to gold
- When you have ~50 wood: build Temple near base or slightly forward
- Keep adding villagers: food priority, then gold, light wood trickle
- Click Classical at ~3:40-3:50 with 8 food / 4-5 gold / 2-3 wood
- Choose Heimdall (all-in) or Forseti (sustained)
Classical Age — Rush Execution
- Drop 1-2 Longhouses immediately — forward if possible
- Start Hersir production (core unit)
- Add Throwing Axemen vs infantry or Raiding Cavalry vs unprepared eco
- If Heimdall: save Undermine for main gold tower or key defensive tower
- Cast Spy early on an enemy villager or scout — track their movements
Rush Micro
- Focus on gold. Denying their main or exposed gold is usually the win condition
- Tower it, Undermine it, camp it with Hersirs
- Constant raids, avoid bad fights. Use Hersir mobility to snipe villagers and priests. Don't bleed Hersirs into TC fire
- Keep Hersirs hitting something — buildings, units, anything — to roll the dice on free myth unit spawns
- Forward build speed abuse: Throw up towers + extra Longhouses aggressively. 25% faster building = instant forward base

Matchup Adjustments
vs Greek (Zeus/Poseidon)
- Strong Classical defense + god powers make rushing riskier
- Lean harder into Hersir numbers to deal with their myth units and heroes
- Watch for Restoration (Athena) — don't overcommit into it
vs Egyptian (Isis)
- Often the best matchup for a hard rush — but watch for free towers and walls
- Heimdall rush designed to hit gold before they hit Classical (~6:00)
- Undermine their gold tower, then camp with Hersirs
vs Atlantean (Kronos)
- Play a 4:00 counter-rush — harass their Oracles
- Wall at home, rush out with Hersirs while staying safe
vs Norse
- 4:10 rush or lose — a good Thor/Odin will match your timing
- Going later = losing
- Forward Temple, disrupt their temple building
Advanced Combos
Flaming Weapons + Fimbulwinter
Cast Fimbulwinter to force town bell (wolves attack villagers, eco stops). Then hit with FW army. Opponent can't reinforce, can't cast GPs (Fimbulwinter blocks), and has to fight with whatever they have. Often GG.
Nidhogg Titan Gate Snipe
Nidhogg does crush damage and can be summoned anywhere you have LOS. Summon him directly on top of a freshly started Titan Gate — can potentially destroy it in under 5 seconds.
Walking Woods + FW
Cast WW near a forest, then hit with FW army simultaneously. The free myth units from trees don't cost pop and overwhelm defenders.
Quick Checklist
- Hit Classical by 3:50-4:10
- Have 2-3 Hersirs + support units by ~5:00 at enemy gold
- Cast Spy early on a key enemy unit
- Target gold first, not the TC
- Keep Hersirs alive and active — your power curve is tied to their numbers + myth spawns
- Build forward aggressively — 25% faster means you can establish before they react
