Ra and Isis: survive the opening, secure the next gold mine
By AoM Guides · retold
An Egyptian transition plan that connects specialized counters, Pharaoh positioning, gold access, and Migdol production.
Prepare the Heroic transition
Ra and Isis need a protected gold economy and a complete army ready when they advance. Defend with specialized troops, use Pharaoh empowerment to support the current bottleneck, and secure room for a Migdol before committing to the Heroic Age.
Know where favor comes from
Monuments generate favor passively. Build the next monument when its income supports an upcoming myth-unit or power purchase, while reserving resources for troops and advancement. Place it where its god-specific effect can support a useful part of your economy or production.
Connect the defense to your workers
Scout the route between your Town Center, gold, wood, and food. Identify which workers are outside the area your army can reinforce quickly. A tower or central strongpoint does little for gatherers working on its far side. Place production and resource buildings to shorten movement and leave a route for retreat; avoid sealing your own defenders into a narrow space.
Use the Pharaoh where empowerment solves a current bottleneck. During calm development that may be economic productivity. During a sudden attack, construction or production may matter more. Repeatedly moving the Pharaoh between unrelated tasks can lose more value than a slightly imperfect but continuous assignment. Keep the unit alive and close enough to withdraw when a raid approaches.
Buy counters that match what you can see
Egyptian Barracks troops have distinct roles. Do not mass Axemen merely because the first enemy unit was infantry if the following force is ranged. Inspect the whole army and make the support that keeps your counter units alive. A smaller correct mix fighting near reinforcement can outperform a larger army chasing across the map.
Include appropriate anti-myth support when monsters appear. Priests need working space and protection; a hero classification does not make a support unit safe inside an entire enemy army. Focus the dangerous myth target while ordinary troops occupy the enemy’s human escort. Retreat before your formation breaks if your counters are absent.
Plan the gold move before the emergency
Locate at least one replacement mine early. Check its approaches with a scout and ask whether your existing army can reach it safely. The answer determines your next investment. You may need additional troops, a defensive position, or a pressure move that pulls the opponent away. Waiting until the home mine is empty turns a strategic choice into a forced, visible march.
For Isis, use Prosperity while protected miners can keep working, then spend the gold on the planned advance, production, or army. For Ra, coordinate Rain with a farm economy that is ready to gather. Finish the defense before buying the farms needed for a larger farming transition.
Make the Migdol transition affordable
A Migdol should support a position you can hold. Constructing it far forward without units to protect the builders risks losing both the investment and the time it was meant to create. A more conservative position that secures a mine can be strategically stronger than a dramatic forward location.
Choose the first Migdol unit for the actual opposing army. Chariot Archers provide mobile ranged damage, but they still need help against threats that reach them. Camel Riders offer a different role and should be chosen deliberately. Avoid starting several expensive unit lines and all their upgrades at once. Establish a working composition, then broaden it when income allows.
Evaluate the first transition
In the replay, pause as the Heroic advance finishes. Mark the safe gold income, the troops available now, the Migdol location, and the units you can afford to produce continuously. If one is missing, trace the decision that caused the gap. The fix may be slower advancement, fewer speculative upgrades, or earlier scouting. The useful benchmark is a stable first production cycle and controlled resource access, not a fast age-up screenshot.
