Introduction
Susanoo is the storm-and-chaos major god of the Japanese pantheon in Age of Mythology: Retold. In mythology he slays the eight‑headed Yamata no Orochi — the same monster that appears as the Japanese Titan — and in game he plays as an aggressive, raid-heavy god.
If you want to hit early, hit often, and keep your opponent permanently off-balance, Susanoo is your pick.
Susanoo Kit (Retold Overview)
- God of Storms/Chaos — Japanese major god
- Aggressive god powers that damage or disrupt enemy armies and eco
- Raid and siege synergy through myth units and upgrades
Core Gameplan
- Fast, aggressive Classical timing
- Early pressure on enemy hunt and gold
- Constant raids backed by mobile armies
- Transition into strong siege and Titan play if game goes long
Susanoo “Pressure Classical” Build
Archaic
- 4 villagers to food (hunt) for fast income
- 1–2 villagers to wood for houses and first barracks
- Next 2 villagers to gold
- Keep villager production constant; don’t idle TC
- Build Temple/Shrine as soon as resources allow
- Advance to Classical a bit earlier than standard; aim to shave ~20–30 seconds off a greedy timing
Early Classical
- Drop military buildings aggressively (forward or mid-map if safe)
- Train a mix of fast units (light infantry/cavalry) for raids
- Use your first god power to crack open their first big defense (hunt/gold/forward tower)
- Try to force fights away from your own base; Susanoo thrives on chaos on their side of the map
Raid Patterns
- Hunt first. Denying food snowballs harder than small villager kills
- Then gold. Once they’re off hunt, gold control decides midgame
- Hit from multiple angles if possible; Susanoo’s pressure tools favor split attacks
Transition & Late Game
- If your early pressure works: take a greedy 2nd TC behind continued raids
- Add siege units as you move into Heroic/Mythic — especially vs turtling opponents
- Prepare for Titan timing (Yamata no Orochi) in very long games; Susanoo’s theme naturally leads there
Playstyle Notes
- Susanoo is not a sit-back-and-boom god — you should be hitting your opponent constantly
- Don’t overinvest in static defenses; your defense is counter-pressure
- Accept that some armies will be traded away — the goal is to keep their eco crippled while your eco grows behind the raids
