Guide
Introduction
This guide sketches a siege-pressure oriented Shennong gameplan for the Chinese pantheon in Age of Mythology: Retold. Shennong’s agricultural and resilience themes lend themselves to solid eco and sustained pushes.
Use this when you want to play for methodical, siege-backed advances rather than pure rushing or turtling.
Concept & Goals
- Solid, farm-oriented eco midgame
- Strong infantry core to protect siege
- Gradual map control via towers and siege units
- Win through steady TC and building destruction, not quick snipes
Archaic — Eco for the Long Game
- 4 villagers to food, building Granary
- 2–3 villagers to wood
- 2 villagers to gold
- Train villagers non-stop; scout with hero for safe farm/gold spots
- Build Temple and advance to Classical on a normal timing
Classical — Setting Up the Engine
- Get 2 TCs reasonably early (one on or near a future farm cluster)
- Transition onto farms earlier than usual; Shennong wants long-term food stability
- Train a healthy frontline of infantry with some ranged support
- Begin researching eco upgrades as resources allow
Heroic — Siege Time
- Click Heroic once you’re on 2 TCs and stable eco
- Unlock siege units and relevant techs as soon as affordable
- Push with: infantry front, siege behind, ranged units on flanks
- Target TCs and key production buildings first
Pressure Pattern
- Establish a forward position with a tower or fortress
- Slowly creep siege forward, always with infantry screening
- Force enemy to fight on your terms; if they dive your siege, punish with myth powers and focus fire
- After each successful fight, take a new resource or TC location
Tips
- Protect siege at all costs. Your plan collapses if you repeatedly lose siege for free
- Eco upkeep. Don’t stop researching eco techs; your whole game plan assumes strong income
- Patience. Shennong siege pressure is about steady progress, not instant wins
