Introduction

Ra in Age of Mythology: Retold is a booming Egyptian god built around Pharaoh empowerment, Rain-powered farm eco, and devastating Heroic-age timing attacks with Chariot Archers, Camels, and Scarab Beetles.

Ra Bonuses (Retold)

  • Pharaoh empowers at +25% rate — increases gather rate, build speed, production speed, and doubles TC arrows
  • Priests can empower buildings (same as Pharaoh but weaker)
  • Chariot Archers and Camels have +20% HP, +10% speed
  • Monuments cost -25% and have +20% HP
  • God Power — Rain: +300% farming rate for you, +200% for allies and enemies
  • Technology — Skin of Rhino: Villagers gain combat stats (hack armor 25% → 47%, pierce armor 34% → 54%)

Core Gameplan

Ra is at his best once the Migdol Stronghold is up in Heroic. The path to get there:

  1. Boom safely in Archaic/Classical with empowered eco
  2. Use Rain early to turbocharge farm food
  3. Rush to Heroic for Migdol access
  4. Mass Chariot Archers + Camel Riders as main army
  5. Add Scarab Beetles as siege for building destruction

Rain Start FH Build (Standard — 95% of Games)

Archaic Age

  1. Do NOT get Hunting Dogs
  2. 1 villager builds Monument (Pharaoh empowers it)
  3. 1 villager builds Granary near hunt (Pharaoh empowers it after Monument)
  4. Pharaoh does a lap around TC to scout
  5. 7 villagers on food (hunt)
  6. 2 villagers to wood
  7. 1 villager builds Mining Camp, research Pickaxe ASAP
  8. 1 villager builds Houses + Temple + 2nd Monument
  9. 4 more villagers on gold
  10. Research Husbandry ASAP
  11. Rest of villagers to food (cows/sheep near TC)

Transition to Classical (Ptah)

  1. Upon advance: shift some villagers to gold, lay down ~11 farms
  2. Cast Rain immediately when you hit Classical
  3. The food spike from empowered Rain farms + Shaduf is enormous
  4. Research Shaduf (Ptah) for cheaper farms

Classical Age

Minimal military — just enough to defend:

  • Small barracks detachment: Spearmen + Slingers + a couple Wadjets
  • Tower up key resources
  • Use Pharaoh empowerment on eco buildings and Monuments
  • Race to Heroic

Heroic Age — The Power Spike

Migdol Stronghold

This is your core military building. Build it immediately upon hitting Heroic:

  • Chariot Archers: Main ranged DPS. Ra's +20% HP and +10% speed make them exceptional
  • Camel Riders: Anti-cavalry flankers. Become monstrous with Osiris/Sobek techs later
  • Spearmen: Cheap food-based meatshield for your expensive ranged units

Scarab Beetles

Your signature siege unit — costs food (not gold), so with your massive farm eco they're essentially free siege:

  • Start producing when your core army mass is decent or you're about to push
  • Never send Scarabs alone — always with a front line
  • Focus targets: TCs, Fortresses, Migdols, then production buildings
  • After winning a battle, walk Scarabs onto buildings immediately while army chases retreaters
  • 3 Scarabs + Eclipse = can flatten a base

Heavy Camel Raids

  • Very effective vs Norse — Camels are fast enough to raid and return to defend
  • Keep myth units at home while raiding
  • Combine with Locust Swarm for maximum eco damage
  • Use 2 groups of 6-10 Camels, rotate them, block villager paths

Minor God Path

Standard Path

Ptah → Sekhmet/Hathor → Osiris/Thoth

Classical — Ptah (Standard)

  • Shaduf: Farms cost 47 gold instead of 70 — amazing for sustaining army
  • Shifting Sands: Teleport units — shift Scarabs into enemy TC, shift enemies onto cliffs
  • Wadjets: Strong defensive ranged myth unit (avoid vs Greek ranged heroes)

Classical — Bast (Alternative)

  • Eclipse: 65-second myth unit power boost. Great for Scarab pushes
  • Sphinxes: Fast, powerful myth units
  • Better vs Atlantean and aggressive opponents

Heroic — Sekhmet (Aggressive)

  • Scarab Beetles: Core siege myth units
  • Bone Bow: +4 Chariot Archer range — outranges TCs
  • Citadel: Upgrades TC with +10 pop cap

Heroic — Hathor (Defensive/Utility)

  • Locust Swarm: Destroys villager eco
  • Roc: Best transport — load Scarabs or Petsuchos for surprise attacks
  • Petsuchos: Powerful ranged myth unit, devastating in Roc drops

Mythic — Osiris (Default)

  • Son of Osiris: Most powerful single hero in the game
  • Desert Wind: +20% Camel speed and attack
  • New Kingdom: Second Pharaoh — one on trade, one in battle
  • Mummy: One-shot myth killer + spawns minions

Mythic — Horus (Alternative)

  • Tornado: Strong area god power
  • Spears of the Horizon: Nearly unkillable Spearmen
  • Better when gold-starved

Advanced Tactics

Roc Raids

Two Rocs loaded with Petsuchos can annihilate eco. One shot from each Petsuchos kills a villager. Very strong.

Catapult Snipes

Load Catapults into Rocs and drop near enemy TC (prefer cliffs). Catapults have high pierce armor and can snipe TCs while only ranged units can respond.

Eclipse + Scarab Push

Cast Eclipse before Scarabs get line of sight so enemies can't use defensive GPs. Then push with eclipsed Scarabs + army.

Key Tips

  • Rain early. Use Rain ASAP in Classical — the food spike is massive and lets you rush Heroic
  • Pharaoh empowerment is your biggest eco tool. Keep him busy — empower gold early, TC during booms, Migdol during fights
  • Scarabs are free siege. They cost food, and your farm eco generates food endlessly. Treat them as expendable
  • Migdol placement wins games. Claim gold mines with forward Migdols — avoid placing near forests vs Thor/Odin
  • Don't neglect priests. 5-6 priests with range upgrade + Nephthys damage upgrade counter all myth units
