Introduction
Odin in Age of Mythology: Retold is an aggressive early-game Norse god built around Great Hunt, ravens scouting, Jarl-based armies, and fast Heroic timings. If you like constant raiding and map control, Odin is your style.

Odin Bonuses (Retold)
- Great Hunt: Stronger hunt god power that can be recast for Favor
- Free Ravens: 2 flying scouts with auto-revive
- Unique techs: Strong cavalry and Jarl upgrades
- Hersirs and Jarls gain extra utility in late game
Core Gameplan
- Use Great Hunt to supercharge early food
- Advance to Classical ~5:10–5:20 (or faster on aggressive builds)
- Rush Heroic ~6:30–7:00
- Drop Hill Forts and spam Jarls (and Mountain Giants) for heavy cavalry pressure
- Raid constantly to generate Favor and keep opponents off balance
Archaic — Great Hunt Setup
- Use Ravens immediately to scout map (relics, gold, enemy base)
- 3 villagers to hunt, build Ox Cart there
- Cast Great Hunt on a large hunt pack near your TC
- Next villagers: fill food until 7-8 on hunt
- Add 2-3 villagers to wood
- Add 2-3 to gold (Temple and early techs)
- Build Temple as soon as 150 gold is available
- Advance to Classical around 5:10-5:20 (or earlier if map and opponent allow)
Raven Usage
- Position Ravens on enemy perimeter to watch villager and army movement
- Track their gold and hunt for future raids
- Don't be afraid to risk Ravens — they revive over time
Classical & Heroic — Fast Heroic Jarl Play
Classical
- Minimal army — enough to defend early pressure
- Focus eco on food and gold to hit Heroic quickly (~6:30-7:00)
- Use Great Hunt again if you have Favor to keep food income high
- Choose Freyja for raiding/play or Heimdall for anti-rush tower play
Heroic
- Drop Hill Forts immediately upon hitting Heroic
- Spam Jarls as your primary cavalry unit
- Add Mountain Giants for siege and building destruction
- Support with Throwing Axemen and Hersirs
- Use Ravens to locate weak points for Jarl raids
Minor God Path
Standard
Freyja → Njord → Baldr
- Freyja: Valkyries + raiding opener, Forest Fire
- Njord: Kraken on water, Mountain Giants on land, Walking Woods
- Baldr: Ragnarok for game-ending timing
Versus Atlantean
- Freyja for early Valkyries to pressure their Citizen-soldiers
- Walk lightly in Classical and aim for quick Heroic for Jarls
Key Odin Tips
- Great Hunt timing: Cast early on biggest hunt packs — early food = faster age-ups
- Favor from combat: Keep raiding — Favor only comes when you're fighting
- Ravens win games: Good scouting leads to good raids. Use them aggressively
- Heroic is your real power spike: Don't overinvest in Classical — save for Hill Forts and Jarls
- Secure Relics: Use Hersirs early to grab relics revealed by Ravens
