Introduction

This guide presents a defensive, turtle-style Nu Wa build for the Chinese pantheon in Age of Mythology: Retold. Nu Wa naturally leans toward protection and order, making her well-suited to patient, fortress-like play.

Use this when you expect heavy aggression or want to drag opponents into long, grindy games.

Concept & Goals

  • Strong, safe Archaic with early walls/towers
  • Thick Classical defenses and solid eco
  • Heroic timing focused on durability and sustain rather than rush
  • Win long games through upgrades, fortified TCs, and efficient trades

Archaic — Foundations & Fortifications

  1. 4 villagers to food (hunt/berries), build Granary
  2. 2 villagers to wood for houses + early walls or towers
  3. 2 villagers to gold
  4. Train villagers non-stop
  5. Build Temple once you can afford it; do not idle TC for it
  6. Begin wall segments or a few towers covering main gold and approach paths
  7. Advance to Classical on a normal timing; no need to rush or delay

Classical — The Shell

  • Drop 1–2 military buildings near your main base
  • Train a sturdy frontline (infantry) and enough ranged to repel pushes
  • Expand walls to cover secondary gold or outer eco as needed
  • Grab a 2nd TC once your defenses feel comfortable
  • Invest in a few key armor/eco upgrades to scale into late game

Midgame Plan

  • Focus on not dying rather than forcing fights
  • Use defensive god powers and myth units in chokes and near TCs
  • Slowly push vision outward with towers and walls
  • Take safe fights around your L-shaped defenses, never in the open unless ahead

Transition to Heroic/Mythic

  • Once on 2–3 TCs with stable eco, plan your Heroic
  • Choose minors that boost tankiness, sustain, or defensive myth units
  • In very long games, tech into a strong Mythic army that can fight under your fortified positions

Tips

  • Don’t over-tower. A few well-placed towers are better than dozens spread thin
  • Wall smart. Close off key chokes and resource approaches; don’t try to wall the whole map
  • Counter-attack selectively. When you wipe a push, take a small step forward (a new tower, a new wall line), then reset
