Guide

Introduction

Nü Wa is the most defensive Chinese god, centered around cheap human troops, powerful walls, and economic sustainability. While Fu Xi fights with heroes and Shennong pushes to Heroic for Fire Lances, Nü Wa excels at early economy, 2-TC booming, and outlasting opponents with superior macro.

Note: Nü Wa was introduced in the Tale of the Dragon expansion and reworked in Age of Mythology: Retold.

Nü Wa Bonuses

  • Human soldiers are cheaper — infantry and cavalry cost less than other civs
  • Cavalry gain +10% HP
  • Peasants are tougher and cheaper
  • Blessed Construction — same as Fu Xi (boost building speed by 20%)
  • Favored Land — buildings inside generate benefits
  • Kuafu — unique builder/gatherer unit, faster construction

Key Mechanics

Kuafu

Same as Fu Xi — Kuafu gathers and builds faster than regular peasants:

  • Start on gold → switch to wood at 150 gold
  • Build Houses to expand Favored Land
  • Build Temple at 150 wood
  • Upgrade to Kuafu Chieftain at 20 favor for early hero power spike and scouting (flying form)

Creation (God Power)

Nü Wa's Creation god power creates clay peasants that work alongside your real villagers:

  • Cast immediately on your starting food for instant extra gathering
  • Clay peasants eventually expire, but the early eco boost is significant
  • Can be used multiple times — use on food early, then on gold when needed

Minor Gods

MythicHuangdi / ZhurongHuangdi buffs human soldiers; Zhurong buffs myth + farming

Build Orders

Fast Classical (3:30 Timing with Kuafu Hero)

  1. First 2 villagers to food (hunt)
  2. Kuafu to gold immediately
  3. Cast Creation on starting food — 2 clay peasants join food gathering
  4. Keep new villagers on food until 6 real villagers on food total
  5. At 150 gold: move Kuafu to wood (big tree)
  6. Kuafu builds first House → expand Favored Land → back to wood
  7. 2-3 villagers to wood (3 total + Kuafu on wood)
  8. At 150 wood: Kuafu builds Temple, then returns to wood
  9. At 20 favor: research Kuafu Chieftain (hero upgrade)
  10. Advance with Houtu (~3:30 Classical)

2-TC Macro Build (Standard)

  1. Queue villagers nonstop
  2. 8 peasants to food (hunt) — build Silo near hunt + woodline in Favored Land
  3. Kuafu to gold → at 150 gold, switch to wood
  4. 3-4 villagers to wood (total 4 on wood including Kuafu)
  5. Kuafu builds first House, then Temple at 150 wood
  6. Advance with Houtu for defensive 2-TC play
  7. Float enough resources to drop 2nd TC within seconds of hitting Classical

Upon Classical:

  • Send a group of villagers to the new TC location — start building immediately
  • Cast Earth Wall around or in front of 2nd TC if pressured
  • Shift many villagers back to food to support double TC villager production
  • Core army: Fire Archers + Daoswordsmen, adjusting to opponent composition

Classical Age Strategy

Houtu (Default — Defensive)

  • Earth Wall: Protects your 2nd TC and key eco areas
  • Advanced Defenses: Tower and building upgrades
  • Abundance: Silo and eco improvements in Favored Land
  • Play defensively, boom behind walls and towers, and outproduce your opponent

Chiyou (Aggressive Alternative)

  • Yazi myth units for early raiding — fast and deadly
  • More all-in than Houtu — if the aggression fails, you're behind economically
  • Best on open maps where raids can do real damage

Heroic & Mythic Strategy

Heroic Priorities

  • Add cavalry — Nü Wa's +10% cavalry HP makes mounted units very strong
  • Mix Fire Archers, Daoswordsmen, and cavalry for a balanced composition
  • Research hero upgrades and start training Immortals for anti-myth duty
  • Take map control with forward buildings and towers

Mythic — Huangdi Path (Human Army)

Huangdi maximizes human soldier effectiveness:

  • Imperial Order: Stronger infantry and cavalry
  • Combined with Nü Wa's cheaper troops and cavalry HP bonus, this creates a very cost-efficient deathball
  • Your army is individually weaker per unit but vastly outnumbers the opponent due to cost advantage

Mythic — Zhurong Path (Myth Army)

  • Flaming Blood: DOT aura around myth units
  • Better farming eco for late game sustainability
  • Synergizes with a myth-heavy composition if you've been investing in myth units

Matchup Tips

vs Rushes (Norse/Atlantean)

Nü Wa handles rushes well. Earth Wall + towers + cheap infantry = solid defense. Don't panic — your eco advantage kicks in fast with double TC. Kuafu hero provides early scouting and defense. Once you stabilize, your cheaper units let you outproduce them.

vs Boom Civs (Egyptian/Greek)

Race to 2-TC boom. Your cheaper peasants and buildings give you an edge in the macro game. Focus on taking map control with forward buildings and deny their expansion. Cavalry raids in Heroic are strong with the HP bonus.

vs Mirror (Chinese)

Chinese mirrors often come down to who manages their unique mechanics better. Focus on Kuafu timing, Favored Land placement, and Creation usage. Whoever gets 2 TCs running first usually wins.

General Tips

  • 2-TC ASAP. Nü Wa's eco advantage only materializes with double villager production. Get that 2nd TC up fast.
  • Cheap units = numbers. Don't try to win with expensive elite units. Win by flooding cheaper, more cost-efficient troops.
  • Cavalry is your late-game ace. The +10% HP bonus makes cavalry disproportionately strong. Mix them into every army.
  • Expand Favored Land. Build Houses forward to extend your zone of influence.
  • Use Creation on cooldown. Free gathering power should never be wasted — cast it on whatever resource you need most.
  • Earth Wall is temporary. It buys time but doesn't last forever. Use that time to get military up, not to sit idle.
