Guide

Introduction

Fu Xi is a Chinese god centered around economic advantages, hero power, and the Yin-Yang cycle. He excels at teching up quickly, producing powerful heroes, and timing attacks during his Yang (damage bonus) phase. Fu Xi rewards players who can manage their unique mechanics and capitalize on power spikes.

Note: Fu Xi was introduced in the Tale of the Dragon expansion and reworked in Age of Mythology: Retold.

Fu Xi Bonuses

  • Yin-Yang Blessing: Alternates every 4 minutes:
    • Yin Phase: Peasants and Kuafu gather 10% faster
    • Yang Phase: Human soldiers and siege deal 10% more damage
  • Blessed Construction: Can boost building speed by 20% on any building during construction (costs 25% of original wood cost, decreasing with delay)
  • Buildings in Favored Land complete research 300% faster
  • Wood discount on buildings (-20%)

Key Mechanics

Yin-Yang Cycle

Every 4 minutes, Fu Xi alternates between Yin (eco phase) and Yang (combat phase). Managing this cycle is crucial:

  • During Yin: Focus on economy, villager production, and resource gathering. Your gatherers work faster.
  • During Yang: Launch attacks, fight battles, and push. Your military deals 10% more damage.
  • Time your army production to have units ready when Yang begins — don't waste the damage bonus sitting in base.

Favored Land

Buildings in your Favored Land research techs 300% faster. This is an enormous advantage:

  • Place your most important tech buildings (Armory, Academy, Barracks) inside Favored Land
  • Expand Favored Land by building Houses and other structures
  • Research bursts during Yang + Favored Land = instant tech advantage

Kuafu

Kuafu is your unique starting unit — a builder/gatherer who constructs faster than regular peasants. Key uses:

  • Use Kuafu for early gold gathering, then transition to wood
  • Kuafu builds Houses, Temples, and the 2nd TC much faster
  • Can be upgraded to Kuafu Chieftain (hero) at the Temple for 20 favor — a major early power spike

Minor Gods

AgeRecommendedNotes
ClassicalChiyou (aggression) / Xuannu (balanced)Chiyou gives Yazi myth units for raiding; Xuannu is balanced offense/defense
HeroicGoumang (balanced)Versatile god suitable for most situations

Build Orders

Standard Opening (~4:00-4:30 Classical)

  1. First 2 villagers to food (hunt)
  2. Kuafu to gold immediately
  3. Cast Creation on starting food — 2 clay peasants join your food gatherers
  4. Keep new villagers on food until 6 total (real villagers, not counting clay)
  5. At 150 gold: move Kuafu to wood (big tree / straggler)
  6. Kuafu builds first House to push out Favored Land, then returns to wood
  7. 2-3 villagers to wood (aim for 3 + Kuafu on wood)
  8. At 150 wood: Kuafu builds Temple, then returns to wood
  9. At 20 favor: research Kuafu Chieftain at Temple (turns Kuafu into a hero)
  10. Advance with chosen minor god

Early Classical Priorities

  • Use Kuafu hero and his flying form for scouting and early defense
  • Build 2nd TC quickly using Kuafu's fast construction speed
  • Train heroes from Imperial Academy — heroes are Fu Xi's biggest strength
  • Research Celestial Weapons to boost hero damage
  • Core army: Fire Archers + Daoswordsmen, adjusting to opponent's composition

Strategies

Hero Rush (Aggressive)

Fu Xi's heroes are among the strongest in the game when properly upgraded. This strategy floods heroes early:

  1. Standard opening into fast Classical
  2. Immediately train heroes from Imperial Academy
  3. Research Celestial Weapons + Tai Chi for maximum hero power
  4. Time your push with Yang phase for +10% damage
  5. Target enemy myth units first (heroes counter them hard), then eco

Yazi Raid (Chiyou)

Pick Chiyou in Classical for Yazi myth units, which are fast raiders:

  • Build a couple Yazi and send them on raiding circuits
  • Use Kuafu hero to build a 2nd TC quickly behind the pressure
  • Queue Yazi upgrades from Temple to maintain raiding pressure
  • If opponent commits to full military, transition to human soldiers + more myth units
  • If opponent stays passive, keep raiding and killing villagers

Tech Rush (Favored Land Abuse)

Leverage the 300% faster research in Favored Land:

  • Place Armory and key buildings in Favored Land
  • Research upgrades almost instantly compared to opponents
  • Have fully upgraded units while opponent is still researching first tier
  • Push with the tech advantage during Yang phase

Map Considerations

  • Water maps and high herdable maps (Oasis, Ghost Lake) — Fu Xi excels here
  • Open maps — use Yazi/heroes to raid early, but watch for counter-rushes
  • Closed maps — boom safely behind walls, abuse Favored Land tech speed

General Tips

  • Heroes are everything. Always be training heroes and researching hero upgrades. They're your biggest strength.
  • Track the Yin-Yang timer. Prepare armies before Yang starts, boom during Yin.
  • Don't harvest Peach Blossom Spring too early. Wait until you know what resource you're short on.
  • Expand Favored Land proactively. Build Houses forward to extend your tech advantage zone.
  • Blessed Construction is free-ish tempo. Use it on key buildings (TC, Temple, military) for faster starts.
