Introduction
This guide formalizes the meme-y but hilarious Freyr Berserk all-in for Age of Mythology: Retold. It’s not a safe ladder staple — it’s a high-risk rush that tries to overwhelm opponents with forward-converted Berserks.
Use it when you want chaos and fast games, not when rating is on the line.
Concept
- Stay on one Town Center
- Rush Temple relatively early
- Send villagers forward and convert them into Berserks near enemy base
- Rely on surprise, numbers, and poor scouting from the opponent
Build Order — Archaic
- 3 villagers + Ox Cart to hunt (cast Great Hunt)
- Queue villagers nonstop; first new villager to wood for houses/Temple
- Next villager to gold
- Aim for roughly: 6 food / 1 wood / 1 gold, then rest to food
- Build Temple at ~15 population (use wood villager + 1 from food)
- No early second resource camp — everything is focused on food/Temple timing
Forward Setup
- As Temple nears completion, select several villagers (3–5) and send them forward
- Hide them near enemy base or on a flanking route
- Keep a few villagers at home on food to maintain minimal income
Berserk Conversion & Attack
- Convert your forward villagers into Berserks once you have the Favor/resources
- Rally any additional Hersirs or units to join them if you can afford it
- Hit enemy wood or gold first — anything away from TC fire
- Focus on killing villagers and houses to supply-block
Follow-Up
- If attack obliterates their eco: keep streaming units and finish the game
- If attack stalls: you’re behind — try to fall back to a smaller, scrappy game with raids and towers
- Do not expect a strong late game from this start; that’s the nature of the all-in
Tips
- Scouting. Make sure you actually know where their villagers are before committing Berserks
- Pathing. Avoid running straight under the TC — wrap around to eco
- Surprise. This build loses a lot of power if they see the forward villagers early
